A new state law went into effect October 1, 2013, that requires ALL new students under the age of 22 to show proof of meningococcal vaccination within the last 5 years.
Meningitis is a very serious infection of the fluid around the brain and spinal cord that can be fatal in as little as 48 hours and may leave survivors with permanent disabilities. Therefore, prevention of this disease is imperative, and it requires early diagnosis and treatment.
Although no vaccine offers 100% protection, the meningococcal vaccine offers the most complete protection against bacterial meningitis.
All students under the age of 22 must submit one of three of the compliance documents outlined below in order to register for classes.
